The strength is in its binding as it dithers between (purpose/use) (obligation/fibre), belonging to neither.

The purpose was to teach boys how to use the stars.

The use became my mum’s filing system, storing my findings from the ground.

They stared up, I gazed down.

They lit fires to the north, sent signals and told the time.

I plucked cultivated plants and desired weeds with patter.

It wasn’t just on repeat but with hope for something I couldn’t hear. I gave my mother what I could reach. At first, I only presented her with the heads of flowers but she taught me to pull from the root so she could have the stem. The stem isn't usually considered. There's no bedspreads, shower curtains or dresses made of the stem but it is the evidence of time spent growing.
